His statements carry no value: Nirbhaya's parents

After a convict in the December 16 Delhi gang rape brazenly blamed the accused for the heinous crime, her parents have hit back at him, saying that he is convicted of a heinous crime and what he says holds no significance.

On Monday, Mukesh Singh, one of the men convicted and sentenced for brutally raping and murdering a 23-year-old in Delhi, in an interview was remorseless of the crime.

Nirbhaya's father said, "Would like to appeal to the PM that till such time people like him are allowed to make such statements then programmes like 'Beti Bachao' will carry no value."

The parents also added that people like Singh should be given the most stringent punishment -- the death sentence -- as a deterrent for the future.
