Some forgotten heroes of the Emergency

The sanctimonious hypocrisy of our politicians should not let us forget that there were some real heroes of the Emergency. One of them was VMTarkunde, a former judge of the Bombay high court. In 1974, when Indira Gandhi's autocratic tendencies began manifesting themselves, Tarkunde and Jayaprakash Narayan set up Citizens for Democracy, a non-party platform to draw attention to the violation of human rights across the country.
