The Lalit Modi saga has worked wonders for the Congress party which has been on mute since the NDA government took office a year ago. Former environment minister Jairam Ramesh quipped to a few reporters at the party office that it was really "Acche din" for the party. Senior party leaders KV Thomas, Motilal Vohra and others say they can't be happier to see that the party is on the page 1 of most newspapers for all the right reasons. As for TV news channels, the reporters thronging to the party office at 24 Akbar Road for press conferences, has party elders humming happily.

In the aftermath of the party's poll debacle, the media has all but abandoned visits to the party office. All that has changed since the Lalit Modi soap opera unfolding over the last two weeks.

On Wednesday evening the Congress released copies of a seven-page document signed by the Rajasthan CM supporting former IPL commissioner Lalit Modis immigration to the UK, and mounted pressure on the party for her resignation.

The Congress showed documents "signed" by her endorsing the former IPL commissioner's immigration to the UK.
