As Mumbai reels under heavy rains, Maharashtra CM takes charge
June 19, 2015  12:53
As Mumbai reels under the monsoon shower and the civic body comes under fire from citizenry for failing to prevent water-logging despite spending crores of rupees, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reached the control room of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, better known as BMC, to monitor the situation for himself.

The situation is expected to turn grim when when high tide sets in at 2.29 pm, posing a risk to low-lying areas that are already flooded.

Mumbai's civic body has an annual budget running into thousands of crores, and it is said to be bigger than the budget of some of our smaller states.

In the meantime, with no respite in rains, the Bombay high court has shut down, Mumbai University has cancelled its exams scheduled for the day, and political parties have cancelled their briefings.
