Former finance minister P Chidamabaram speaks out on the allegations made by former IPL chairman Lalit Modi against UPA ministers.

"Charges made by Lalit Modi at the UPA government are laughable, do not deserve a reply," said Chidamabaram at a presser today.

Lalit Modi alleged that he was also helped by National Congress Party leaders Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel and Congress leader Rajiv Shukla.

On the passport issue, Chidambaram said, "In 2011, Lalit Modi's passport was cancelled at the request of the Enforcement Directorate. Why did Sushma feel Lalit Modi should have a UK travel doc and not an Indian travel document?"

"How was Lalit Modi staying in UK when passport was cancelled and why is he not being sent back to India," he asked.

"The ED had issued showcause notices and summons to appear to Lalit Modi but he did not respond. He was being investigated under laws of India with no right to travel outside India or to live in UK," he added.
