Journalist dragged, beaten up for land grab expose in Pilibhit

There seems to be no relief for journalists in Uttar Pradesh.

Days after a journalist was set ablaze over alleged reports on illegal mining activities and land grabbing against UP minister Ram Murti Verma, another journalist, who had been reporting on a land-grab case in Pilibhit, was allegedly tied to a motorcycle, dragged and beaten up on the night of June 13.

According to reports, Haidar Khan, a resident of Sherpur Kalan, works as a stringer for a news channel.

"Yesterday, around 6 pm I got a call that the eye witness in a robbery case has met with an accident and I should come to rescue him. When I reached at the spot I was surrounded by some three-four people. They then started beating me up and hit me with a revolver on my head and dragged me for 100 meters from a car," the journalist said.
