KFC among top eateries flouting environmental laws

India Today reports: In the past one year, about 100 top-of-the-line eateries, restaurants and commercial establishments -- including KFC and Cafe Coffee Day -- have been found flouting environmental laws. 

But despite clear instructions from the green watchdog to down their shutters, the authorities didn't take action against them in 90 per cent cases.

Whenever Delhi Pollution Control Committee asks such polluting units to shut shop, it tells Delhi Jal Board and power discoms to disconnect supplies and the area SDMs -- who report to the divisional commissioner -- to seal the premises.

But in the past 12 months, neither of these agencies or officials acted in 90 per cent cases. The result: the defaulting units were free to poison Delhi's air and wasting huge quantities of water.
