Congressional resolution calls for strengthening Indo-US ties

A Congressional resolution marking the upcoming 68th anniversary of India's independence has called for continued strengthening of Indo-US ties.

Introduced in the US House of Representatives by Congressman Dr Ami Bera -- the only Indian American in the current Congress -- the resolution is co-sponsored by more than a dozen lawmakers.

Noting that the people of the two countries maintain a shared commitment to building democratic institutions, the resolution says the US and India continue to pursue a strategic partnership based on common interests and shared commitments to freedom, democracy, pluralism, human rights and the rule of law.

Expressing appreciation to Americans of Indian descent for their great contributions to the United States society, the resolution calls for the continued strengthening of relations between the United States and India.
