PM Modi, senior politicians condole passing of former president Kalam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined in other senior leaders in condoling the passing of former president A P J Abdul Kalam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles former President A P J Abdul Kalam's death, describes him as "marg darshak" (guide).

"Deeply saddened at sudden demise of former president of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. He was an inspiration to an entire generation," tweeted Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"Dr Kalam was a man of impeccable character, indomitable spirit, profound knowledge and firm conviction," his tweet added.

"The death of Dr Kalam is an irreparable loss to this nation. He has left a big void hard to fill. I deeply mourn his death. RIP Kalam Sahab," Singh said.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "Kalamji ws not merely the President but a role model and an ideal citizen to every Indian: Arun Jaitley on Abdul Kalam." 

"I pray to God that his soul rests in peace. He was always worried about the nation's future. He is an inspiration for all of us," said senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

Former president A P J Abdul Kalam, a popular head of state between 2002 and 2007, died on Monday after he collapsed during a lecture in Shillong.
