Ohio Governor John Kasich said he will seek the Republican nomination for the 2016 presidential election, making a relatively late entry into the White House race. Kasich, a former US congressman, enters a race which now includes 16 Republicans.

A fiscal conservative with a record of supporting programs for the poor, Kasich will compete with rivals like former Florida governor Jeb Bush and New Jersey governor Chris Christie to woo establishment Republicans.
