Govt all set to get GST bill passed in RS

Informed sources tell us that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in touch with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Karnataka CM Sidharamaiah and Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa to ensure that the GST bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha.


Sources confirmed that back-channel efforts are now on to get the GST Bill passed in the monsoon session of Parliament. Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley have also discussed and solicited support of leaders of six regional parties.


So, a senior leader is likely to fly from Delhi to Chennai to meet Jayalalithaa and the anvil will be a discussion on the GST issue. The government wants the negotiations to be over by the time the monsoon session commences on July 21. The session concludes on August 13.
