Dont go by media briefing, there was positive content in Modi-Xi at Ufa

The content and quality of media briefings by top South Block officials regarding high-level exchanges with foreign countries depends to some extent on the questions fielded by the journalists present.

The questions can be pre-arranged at times.

But the onus ultimately is on the official to give the briefing in the best possible light and to project policies in a positive manner.

By these yardsticks, the much-awaited media briefing by the Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modis 80-90 minute meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Ufa on Wednesday turned out to be a damp squib.
