Popular actress Pallavi Joshi has reportedly quit the Film and Television Institute of India society.

Earlier filmmaker Jahnu Barua and well-known cinematographer Santosh Sivan also had reportedly written to the FTII asking them to not be considered as a part of the FTII society or its governing council.

Speaking to an English daily, Joshi said that she does not want to be a part of the FTII society owing to the cloud of negativity that is surrounding currently. She maintained that she has no qualms with anybody being selected as the chairman, though she does not want to be a part of the negative environment.

"I am not at all political and I have no views on who has been selected in the society. But my heart goes out to the students who have been so dignified and have conducted a peaceful protest so far. It is commendable how they are trying to have a dialogue with the ministry. I am a person of art and all I know is that art cannot prosper in such a negative environment," she said.

In 1992, Joshi had won the Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards.

Other well-known people who are a part of the FTII  society are: Shailesh Gupta, Cinematographer; Rajkumar Hirani, Filmmaker; Vidya Balan, actress; Rahul Solapurkar, actor; Pranjal Saikia, actor among others.
