India and the US today decided to set up a task force for jointly developing Allahabad, Ajmer and Vishakhapatnam as Smart Cities with a mandate of preparing the roadmap within three months.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and visiting Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, two days after the two countries signed pacts under which the three cities will be developed as Smart Cities with the help of United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).

According to the decision, the task force comprising officials from the Centre, state governments and USTDA will be constituted for three cities. The road map will be worked out in three months to develop these cities as Smart City.

Two days back, India signed three agreements with the USTDA for developing Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, Ajmer in Rajasthan and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Seeds for the initiative were sown during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US in September last year when the issue found mention in the Joint Statement.

Talking about that backdrop, Naidu said, "it is now time for both the sides to walk the talk by acting quick and concretising the agreements reached."

Shah Rukh Khan has reason to be pleased today. Not that he doesn't other days, but to have US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi borrowing his line from the blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, is quite something else.

While addressing the crowd at the Siri Fort Auditorium on the last pit stop of his three-day visit, President Obama said he remembered his previous visit in 2010 and "dancing the Bhangra" with his wife, Michelle Obama at an event in Mumbai.

14:41   Here's the flag rule, folks. Read before you criticise the vice president
For all of you ranting over Vice president Hamid Ansari's 'unpatriotic' gesture of not saluting the national flag on Republic Day, here's something that should calm you.

"As per protocol, only those in uniform salute the Tricolour while the national anthem is being played and those in plainclothes must stand at attention," Vice President Hamid Ansari said on Tuesday.

The Vice President's clarification came after he reportedly came under criticism for not saluting the national flag during the Republic Day parade.

According to the Flag Code of India, Section VI, only those in uniform may 'render the appropriate salute'.

"During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in a review, all persons present should face the flag and stand at attention. Those present in uniform should render the appropriate salute... A dignitary may take the salute without a head dress," the section states.

During the Republic Day parade, protocol dictates that as supreme commander of the armed forces, the President shall salute the flag.

The posters were first spotted pasted on the back of auto-rickshaws in the city a couple of days ago.

"Few a days, the BJP was asking us if the AAP will put up Kiran Bedi's picture during campaign. We answered," AAP spokesperson Atishi Marlena was quoted as telling ANI on Saturday.
