Court orders release of Irom Sharmila

JUST IN: Judicial magistrate in Imphal orders Irom Sharmila's release once more today, all cases against her dismissed.

Sharmila has been in judicial custody since November 2000, when she started an indefinite fast asking that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur be repealed.

In August last year, Sharmila had been released after the Imphal court ruled that her fast could not be construed as an attempt to commit suicide. However, after her release, Sharmila continued her fast, leading the Manipur cops to rearrest her. They again charged her with attempt to suicide.
