21:20   Nairobi flights halted after plane crash
Flights into Kenya's main airport have been suspended after a passenger plane crash-landed on the runway in the capital Nairobi. No deaths or injuries have been reported at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The Kenyan Airports Authority said the Fokker 50 turboprop plane carrying six people had touched down on its belly after the landing gear failed. All flights into Nairobi are now being diverted to the port city of Mombasa.

Four days after the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a Pakistani boat carrying explosives to India, Pakistan has captured 2 Indian boats and detained 12 fishermen. According to reports, boats named - Jhelelal and Jalaram - with 12 fishermen were abducted from international marine boundary line.

Officials in Nigeria say the Islamist group Boko Haram has seized a town and a military base used by a multinational force set up to fight the insurgents.The senator for Borno North said troops abandoned the base in the town of Baga after it was attacked on Saturday.Residents of Baga, who fled by boat to neighbouring Chad, said many people had been killed and the town set ablaze.

JUST IN: 5 people have died in a blast during football match in Pakistan's Lower Orakzai Agency. At least another 10 people were injured in the blast. However, the nature of the explosion could not be confirmed as yet. Political Tehsildar Khiasta Akbar said the blast appeared to be carried out through a planted device.

17:47   Youth who attacked Banerjee thrashed by TMC men
The man who slapped Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek was allegedly caught by Trinamool Congress members and was mercilessly beaten. He has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries, said media reports. The police, probing the case, said that the attacker's identity was still unknown and that they were investigating the incident. 

Meanwhile, TMC's Derek O'Brien said that it seemed to be the handiwork of an outsider.

The hashtag MufflerMan was started as a dig at Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and his favourite accessory, a muffler, during the 49 days he was Delhi's chief minister. That affront, long embraced by the party and turned into a marketing tool, is back before the next Delhi assembly elections. 

A group of AAP volunteers from the Indian Institute of Technology have collaborated with an app development company to create a game around the adventures of the Muffler Man.

17:00   Pak court to hear on Jan 6 govt appeal against Lakhvi's bail
Pakistan government's appeal against the bail to Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack, will be heard by a court here on Tuesday, a court official said. "The Islamabad High Court has fixed January 6 for hearing of the government's plea against Lakhvi's bail on its request. A division bench has been constituted to take up the matter," the official said.

Increasingly, it appears that the interception of a Pakistani fishing boat by the Coast Guard might have had 'other considerations' than fighting terrorism. What comes to mind is the infamous incident in 2007 that cast the Coast Guards in very poor light. Is history repeating itself? The defensive tone of the ministry of defence press release regarding the incident reads as if someone hurriedly projected India's varnished version first.

15:14   Coast Guard clears the air: Men on boat were not smugglers
The Coast Guard has come forward and categorically stated that the boat which was intercepted off the Gujarat coast and then blew up did not contain smugglers. Following the incident, a war of words broke out between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party with the former demanding that the government come clear on the entire matter and said there were some details that didn't add up. The BJP, on its part, said that the Congress was speaking like Pakistan. "Congress is supplying oxygen to Pakistan. Do they not have faith in Indian Coast Guard?" asked BJP's Sambit Patra.

It seems Aam Aadmi Party has mistakenly named Suresh Bhardwaj, a Bharatiya Janata Party member, as its party candidate from Wazirpur constituency. Bhardwaj claimed that he was unaware of his candidature till he saw the news reports. Following the media reports, Bhardwaj sought to clarify his position and said "he had never met any senior AAP leaders" and was very much with the BJP.

Facebook photos posted by Sarah Palin showing her son Trig using the family dog as a step stool unleashed online fury. 

Trig, 6, who has Down Syndrome, is shown stepping on the back of the family's black Labrador while it lies on the kitchen floor in order to reach the sink. The dog appears unruffled. 

The Facebook post by Palin, who was the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, drew more than 12,000 comments by Friday, ranging from cries of animal abuse to those seconding Palin's praise for the youngest of her five children.

Mercury dipped slightly in the national capital today with fog continuing to disrupt rail traffic, delaying over 40 north-bound trains. "Light fog condition prevailed in the morning and the minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal," a MeT official said.

A UK college is offering its students a new course on the art of selfies and chance to become fully qualified selfie-takers. City Lit College will offer a first ever 'selfie course' for 132 or $160 (Rs 10,120) starting this March called 'The art of photographic self-portraiture'. The month-long course consisting of lectures and seminars will help students 'improve critical understanding of the photographic self-portrait'.

Sources say that the nation's capital will be going to polls most likely on February 10 or 12 in a single phase. The Election Commission will bench a meeting tomorrow to finalise the poll schedule. The use of Mahatma Gandhi's image on beer cans and bottle by a US company has raised hackles with a petition being filed in a Hyderabad court alleging it had insulted the father of the nation following which the liquor company has apologised. 

The Connecticut-based New England Brewing Company even claimed that its intention was to pay homage and celebrate the apostle of peace and that Gandhi's granddaughter and grandson have expressed their admiration for the label.

12:28   Cyber-terror crackdown: No contacts for many blocked sites
As the government cracks down on websites purportedly carrying anti-India propaganda of terror groups such as Islamic State, security agencies have found that many of these portals do not have contact details of their owners and have servers based outside the country. The concerned agencies are finding it difficult to proceed with legal action against these websites in the absence of any co-operation from domain registrars and other entities in the US and Europe where their servers are based, official sources said.

Gautam Buddha does not welcome all to 1 Aney Marg any more. The shining brass sculpture that hung from atop a sofa in the drawing room has vanished since Jitan Ram Manjhi moved in seven months ago.

The statue was the presiding deity in the new drawing hall Nitish Kumar got built in the extended part of 1 Aney Marg. Also missing at the chief minister's official residence now is the utmost care once accorded to anything remotely connected to the Buddha.

11:49   Islamic State releases 7th video of British journalist John Cantlie
The Islamic State has released the seventh video of British journalist John Cantlie who was taken hostage along with American journalist James Foley in November 2012. 

In the latest video 'From Inside Mosul', Cantlie is seen 'reporting' from the group's stronghold Mosul in Iraq describing 'normalcy' in the city. He is seen driving through Mosul in a car, walking down crowded streets, shopping in a local souk, visiting a children's ward and riding a police motorcycle.

11:29   Angry Tamils protest outside Salman Khan's home
Angry Tamils belonging to political parties met outside Salman Khan's home and protested against the Bollywood actor for campaigning for Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The protesters raised slogans against the Lankan president and Khan. 

Protesters said they would continue protesting outside Khan's home in Bandra, Mumbai till he apologised. 

Cops soon came to the spot and took around 10-15 protesters into preventive custody.

Salman Khan had accompanied his Sri Lankan co-star Jacqueline Fernandez to Colombo to campaign for Rajapaksa on the invitation of the latter's son Namal, who is reportedly the actress' friend. His move earned him the ire of political parties in Tamil Nadu, calling him a betrayer.

After receiving a threat of a possible hijacking, security at Delhi airport has been tightened. Intelligence agencies have issued a warning that terrorists may hijack a Delhi-Kabul Air India flight.
