UN calls on Libyan parties to resume peace dialogue
February 25, 2015  23:48
The UN has appealed to all parties in Libya to resume dialogue on the future of the war-wracked North African state following a decision by the country's parliament to suspend participation in the UN-brokered peace talks.

The chamber of representatives of the internationally recognised government of Al-Thinni voted in favour of suspending its participation after the deadly bombing in the eastern town of Al-Qubbah which killed at least 40 people and gravely injured civilians.

The bombing was carried out by the Islamic State in retaliation to the attack carried out by Egypt in Derna after the killing of 21 Coptic Christians by the IS.

The UN appealed to all parties not to let this "window of opportunity to slip away" and reiterated the neutrality of the United Nations to the Libyan leaders.
