Pakistan police have rounded up some people for questioning into the death of Reuters bureau chief in the country, who police said was found dead in Islamabad under mysterious circumstances.

Golovnina (34), who was also looking after Afghanistan, died yesterday at her office-cum-home in Islamabad.

The Russian-origin journalist was found dead in mysterious circumstances, the News quoted police as saying. The cause of death is being investigated.

"The police are investigating the case on different aspects to clear the doubts," the newspaper quoted a police officer as saying.

Golovnina's body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for postmortem but the hospital administration did not receive a request from the area police for an autopsy.

PIMS sources claimed that there were no signs of torture on body of the deceased, adding that apparently, she died her natural death. She died in her bathroom after she vomited. A staffer found her dead in the bathroom of her room and informed the police, the paper said.

The police reached the scene and shifted her body to PIMS hospital. The police said that Golovnina often visited Afghanistan and northern parts of Pakistan for news coverage.
