Pre-budget cut hits overseas pledges

 The Narendra Modi government has quietly slashed the foreign office's funding for the current fiscal by 15 per cent, forcing the already resource-strapped external affairs ministry to pull back from key diplomatic commitments.The rare pre-budget cuts for one of the administration's busiest arms will bring down the foreign office budget for the financial year ending on March 31 from Rs 14,730 crore to Rs 12,499 crore.
