Seat-warmer CM quits

So, Jitan Ram Manjhi, the 70-year-old Chief Minister of Bihar, has resigned hours before a trust vote, which he would have certainly lost, despite the last-minute support from the opposition BJP.

Manjhi had so far refused to resign and vacate the seat for the state's former CM Nitish Kumar. He had in fact been ushered into the CM's seat by the JD-U as a seat warmer for Nitish.

Then, last month, the party asked Nitish to return as chief minister and lead the party's campaign for the state election later this year.
