After suffering an embarrassing loss, Bharatiya Janata Party's Kiran Bedi said that fatwas issued in the Capital had affected how people voting, which may have been one of the reasons for the party's defeat. Explaining why she wanted the Election Commission to look into the matter, she said, "I was told voting for me in Krishna Nagar dropped in places where a fatwa had been issued. I can be wrong, but want it to be inquired."

Before Delhi went to polls,  Syed Bukhari, who is the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, had appealed to Muslims voters to support AAP. However, the AAP had quickly rejected the support, saying it did not need support of a man who does not respect the nation's prime minister.
