Russia admits congruence with Taliban

The Russian presidents special representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov has publicly acknowledged in remarks to Interfax news agency on Wednesday that Moscow has a shared interest and is exchanging information with the Taliban regarding the threat posed by the Islamic State . 

Ambassador Kabulov is Moscows ace Afghan expert with unmatched hands-on experience in negotiations with the Taliban in the mid-nineties. Kabulov said:

Russia sees shared interest with the Taliban when it comes to countering the threat posed by the IS. Taliban interests objectively coincide with ours; we have communication channels with the Taliban to exchange information; Both the Taliban of Afghanistan and the Taliban of Pakistan have said that they dont recognize (IS leader) Al-Baghdadi as caliph, that they dont recognize ISIL. That is very important;

The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova later confirmed Kabulovs remarks, saying, It has to do with fighting the ISIL. But she amplified that Moscow has only had limited contacts with the Taliban no travel, no meetings.
