Taliban attack Spanish embassy in Kabul

Officials in Kabul and Madrid said on Friday evening that a suicide bomber and several gunmen have attacked the Spanish embassy compound in the Afghan capital.

Gunshots were being heard following a loud explosion near the embassy, officials said.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it said the target was a foreign guest house.

It was not immediately clear if the guest house was inside the embassy premises. The blast shook nearby buildings in Sherpur area in central Kabul..

The Afghan interior ministry confirmed a 'terrorist' attack was underway in Kabul, but declined to give further details.

There have been no reports of casualties so far.
