Limited commercial flight operations are expected to begin today from the Rajali naval air station in Arakkonam, about 70 kilometres from Chennai.


The Naval station has been converted into a makeshift airport with the Chennai international airport flooded and closed for operations till Sunday.


There have been no commercial flights to and from Chennai since Tuesday evening; the Navy has approved the operation of seven from its base today. 


Civil Aviation Secretary RN Choubey said carriers Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet had indicated that they would operate flights. Read more
