Curfew extended to more areas in Gujarat, internet services curtailed

Following arson and stone-pelting incidents by the members of Patel community after detention of their 22-year-old leader Hardik Patel on Tuesday night, a curfew was imposed in three towns of North Gujarat and some areas of Surat.

In Ahmedabad, city buses and police posts were set on fire, while stone-pelting was reported from various parts of Gujarat. Police had to resort to lathicharge and lob teargas shells to control the situation.

According to media reports, the curfew was extended to more areas on Wednesday morning. In Ahmedabad, areas under nine police stations have been put under the curfew.

In Surat, curfew has been imposed in two areas under Varcha and Kapodra police stations and the entire city has been put under section 144. Curfew has been imposed in the entire Mehsana and Kadi cities. 

Areas under nine police stations in Ahmedabad are under curfew.

Mobile internet services have been curtailed to prevent any sort of rumour-mongering through social media.
