The Bangkok blast and the shadow of terror in Thailand

It's unclear at present who or what group is behind a bombing near a busy Bangkok intersection that killed at least 16 people and injured dozens on Monday evening.

The blast occurred near a Hindu shrine popular with tourists and close to the crowded Ratchaprasong intersection, which is surrounded by hotels, offices and shopping centers.

There were reports of more bombs discovered and defused on location.Prawit Wongsuwan, Thailand's defense minister, told Reuters that the attack's "perpetrators intended to destroy the economy and tourism" of the bustling capital.
