On this 69th Independence Day of the country, Google celebrates by creating a doodle of the historic Dandi March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha on its homepage.

The doodle features 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi leading the Dandi March along with a group of followers. It also shows Gandhi wearing khadi white clothes while followers can be seen wearing saree and white topi with a kurta respectively.

The historic march began on March 12, 1930, and is one of the important moments in the Indian independence movement. It was a non-violent protest against the British government's decision to suppress tax regime and to impose tax on salt.

Mahatma Gandhi began the march from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi.

Thousands of supporters joined the march which led way for the Civil Disobedience Movement.
