Sonia, Manmohan lead protests outside Parl over suspension of Cong MPs

Just in: Congress MPs have begun staging protests at the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside Parliament House. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former PM Dr Manmohan Singh at the protests.


This comes a day after Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan suspended 25 Congress members from the House for persistently and willfully obstructing the House by displaying placards and shouting slogans,

Congress MPs from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are at the protests.

Sonia Gandhi had called the act a 'black day in democracy'. Following the suspension, 9 other parties, including the AAP and the TMC, decided to boycott proceedings for five days.


Congress leader Kamal Nath says he has never seen such a combative action in Parliament. He said suspension of the MPs crushes democracy.
