US President Barack Obama turns 54 today. Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, and at age 47 he became the United States' fifth-youngest commander-in-chief.

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish Obama saying, @narendramodi Dear @POTUS, wishing you a Happy Birthday! Have a great year ahead. I pray for your long life & may you remain in good health.

Obama and Modi strengthened their ties with each other during bilateral visits. In October the PM visited the US, while Obama was India's chief guest during the Republic Day celebrations.

Then in April, in an unprecedented gesture that seals the arrival of Narendra Modi as a global statesman, Obama wrote a piece for the prestigious Time magazine calling him India's "reformer-in-chief".

The 166-word piece, written as part of the Time magazine's annual ritual of coming out with its list of 100 Most Influential People, says, "Today, he's the leader of the world's largest democracy, and his life story - from poverty to Prime Minister - reflects the dynamism and potential of India's rise."
