Army's prisoners of war within India

The families of more than 150 soldiers of an artillery unit have sought the intervention of the government to rescue their kin from a three-year forced confinement under a colonial-era charge of "mutiny" that the officers of the battalion have allegedly foisted on them.


In representations to the President, the Prime Minister and the defence minister, the families, speaking for the soldiers of the 226 Field Artillery Regiment, have alleged that through a conspiracy, a section of the officer cadre had closed ranks to protect their own at the cost of the men they were supposed to lead.
