CNN-IBN reports: A Samajwadi Party leader on Saturday stirred a controversy by requesting party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to nominate 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon's widow Raheen as a Rajya Sabha MP.

The remarks came just two days after 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon was hanged at Nagpur Central Jail.

Vice president of SP's Maharashtra state unit Mohammed Farooq Ghosi wrote a letter to Mulayam in this regard and termed the timing of the letter wrong.

"I should not have written a letter to SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. I understand this was not a proper time to write such a letter."

Ghosi, however, is firm on his demand for Rajya Sabha berth for Memon's widow.
