At least 110 people were killed and heavy casualties feared as a strong earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter scale struck Nepal on Saturday, bringing down a number of buildings including the centuries-old Dharhara tower in the heart of the capital trapping scores of people.

Dharahara Tower or Bhimsen Tower, a 19th century nine-storey tall tower in Kathmandu, has collapsed due to the quake that struck earlier in the day, say reports.

Nearly 400 people are believed to be trapped.
