Srinagar bore a deserted look after Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a shutdown to protest separatist leader Masarat Alam's arrest. Shops and other establishments were shut and heavy security was witnessed in the area.
Geelani made the bandh call soon after a Jammu and Kashmir court sent Kashmiri separatist Alam to seven days in police remand. Alam was arrested on Friday amidst mounting outrage over raising of pro-Pakistan slogans and flags at a rally attended by him on Wednesday.
