While Rahul was away, dissent about whether he should in fact takeover the reigns of the ailing party, grew. Congress stalwart and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit echoed her son Sandeep Dikshit's reservations saying there was "skepticism" over his leadership qualities and pitched for continuance of Sonia Gandhi at the helm.

Congress spokesperson PC Chacko has said that senior leaders of the party should refrain from making such open comments which contribute to the confusion.
