Modi, Merkel's chai pe charcha at Hannover

PM Narendra Modi and Chancellor Merkel enjoy a cup of tea at the Hannover Fair. The tea, informs MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, was picked from the Tea Board of India. This is the third time Modi has used tea as a leitmotif while meeting a head of state. Modi's tea ceremony with President Obama in Delhi grabbed eyeballs when he personally poured out the tea for Obama on the lawns of Hyderabad House.

Modi has also sipped tea with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the his visit to that country in 2014.

The concept of 'Chai Pe Charcha' came to be known during Modi's campaign for Lok Sabha polls in 2014 when he used it as an election plank.
