Islamists kidnap then free 300 Kurds in Syria

Islamist fighters today kidnapped some 300 Kurdish civilians at a checkpoint in northwestern Syria, holding them several hours before setting them free, Kurdish officials and a monitor said. 

Newaf Khalil, a spokesman for the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), said the group had been detained by Jaysh al-Islam, a powerful Islamist group allied to Al-Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate.
