Flurry of activity in North Block over the last two days. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and 15 of his senior officials burned the midnight oil to complete the year-end process of allocation of funds to state governments and union ministries.

Insiders say Jaitley signed as many as 600 times on files that needed his authorisation. But officials give a different prespective.

They say that Jaitley's marathon end-of-financial year task began on February 28 and ended on March 31 and the ministry has been under immense pressure to ensure it met deadlines.
