Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi on the security arrangements in the city in the wake of J Jayalalithaa's incarceration. Reddi says an overall practice whenever there is Z or Z+ category security is that the police writes to two to three government hospitals to keep wards ready with all equipment.

At least 16 persons committed suicide either by setting themselves ablaze or by hanging since Saturday when AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa was sentenced to a four-year jail term in the disproportionate assets case by a special court in Bangalore.

Jayalalithaa will have to spend at least six days more in jail as the Karnataka high court on Tuesday adjourned to October 6 her pleas seeking immediate bail and challenging her conviction.
