Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 18,500 people at  Madison Square Garden Sunday. He greeted the crowd with a statesman-like wave as he took to the stage before his one-hour-plus speech.

Modi, with his powerful voice, emphatic intonation and animated hand gestures, is a welcome change from India's former prime minister Manmohan Singh, best known for his wooden appearance and monotone delivery.
