Would be a pity if Cong-NCP alliance breaks up: Tharoor

As talks with NCP over seat sharing for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra remain "inconclusive", Congress today said it will "not "compromise" on self-respect but added that it would be a "pity" if their alliance breaks up.

"It is a good thing to have the alliance and I hope they will have a decent compromise solution because obviously this is an alliance which has lasted and has succeeded for election after election," Congress spokesperson Shashi Tharoor said.

He said it would be a pity if the alliance collapses. "At the end of the day our party will not compromise on its self-respect either. So, I am sure that at the end of the day, a solution would be found," Tharoor told PTI on the sidelines of the launch of the 25th anniversary edition of his book, 'The Great Indian Novel'.

The book is a satirical masterpiece in which the story of Mahabarata is retold as an allegorical tale wherein renowned political personalities begin to resemble characters from the Sanskrit epic.
