Fresh terror threat puts India on edge

Gujarat, UP, MP and Bihar on high alert after Al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri announced the formation of an Indian wing of the terror group. Intelligence Bureau officials have also asked officials in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to question all those who have any links with the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India.   In a 55-minute long video, Zawahiri announced the formation of an Indian branch of his global armed group that he said would spread Islamic rule and "raise the flag of jihad' across the subcontinent. Zawahri said the new wing would defend Muslims in Bangladesh, India and Myanmar. In his video, he singles Assam, Gujarat and Kashmir -- as territories to be targeted by the new organisation.
