Coming to the rescue of homeless people who have to bear the harsh winter out in the open every year, the Supreme Court today issued a directive to several states on construction of shelter homes.

The governments of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh were today instructed by the apex court to build shelter homes for homeless people ahead of the winter season.

"We will be very harsh to you if the shelter homes are not ready (in time),' the court told the state governments.

The court was forced to issue the warning as governments in the past have been indifferent to the plight of homeless people, sometimes even ignoring the courts on building of shelter homes. -- Zee News.
