A smartphone game that allows users to take part in Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests has become a hit among demonstrators and gamers."Yellow Umbrella", a free Android app, has been downloaded more than 40,000 times since it was released on Google Play, developer Awesapp said, although it has yet to receive approval from Apple and is noticeably absent from Google's online store in mainland China. In the game, users are placed on virtual blockades that they must defend against tear gas-wielding police officers, triad thugs and embattled Hong Kong leader CY Leung dressed as a wolf. In keeping with the non-violent nature of the student-led protests, players cannot attack assailants, but can defend using umbrellas, incense sticks and durian fruit.
