US says Baghdad is not under 'imminent threat' from IS

The Iraqi capital Baghdad is not in immediate danger from Islamic State jihadists despite battlefield gains by the group in the country's west, a US military spokesman said today. 

"We don't believe that Baghdad is under imminent threat," spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told a news conference. He acknowledged several deadly car bombings in Baghdad, including one claimed by the IS group, but said the city was not on the verge of collapsing.
