Hong Kong protesters set up new blockade after road opens

Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters set up a new blockade in the city's business district after officers yesterday used chain saws and sledgehammers to clear barricades and reopen some roads.

A group of more than 100 protesters confronted a line of police after blocking four lanes of a major traffic artery that passes the offices of the city's leader, Leung Chun-ying. The outnumbered officers retreated from the scene shortly before midnight. A larger group of demonstrators camping out on the other side of the city's main government offices in Admiralty remained calm with no police in sight.
