18:37   Rahul's Modi blooper: Calls PM 'opposition leader'
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today committed a faux pas in Mahad, Maharashtra, when he apparently referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "opposition leader".

"An opposition leader says nothing happened in the last 60 years. Their thinking is that only one man can take the country forward."This thinking raises a question mark on Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Nehru. It not only raises a question mark on them (about what they did for the country), but also you (the people) and your forefathers," Rahul said addressing his maiden campaign rally for the October 15 Maharashtra Assembly poll.

"It is you, your sweat and blood that has brought the country where it is today," the Congress leader said.

Modi has been targeting Congress at his poll rallies, saying, "Those who ruled the country for 60 years are seeking account of what I did in 60 days. Have they given the account of what they did in 60 years?"

"Hello, this is Narendra Modi speaking. How are you Dr Saab?

As you can well imagine, the doctor at the end of the line almost hung up in shock.

The PM had made a call to the doctor attending to his finance minister and key aide Arun Jaitley who had been hospital once again last month for a check-up after an operation to treat his diabetes.

Modi told the doctor to update him on Jaitley's hemoglobin levels and health parameters.

As it may be recalled, Modi was in the US when Jaitley had been hospitalised for a post-op check-up and the call was made when he was in New York.

Modi told the doctor that he would expect a text message every day on Jaitley's health till he returned to New Delhi.

16:07   Second and last total lunar eclipse of 2014 begins
A total lunar eclipse, the second and last one of this year has begun. With its onset, the Earth has positioned itself between the sun and the moon, creating a full lunar eclipse with a majestic red hue.

The spectacular sight is visible to people in North America, as well as to observers in Australia, western Asia and across the Pacific Ocean.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the shadow of the Earth cast by light from the sun.

Total lunar eclipses are called "blood moons" because of the dull reddish color of the eclipsed moon.

Wednesday's lunar eclipse is also known in folklore as a "hunter's moon" because it is the full moon after the harvest moon. The blood moon will be 5.3 percent larger than the last blood moon observed on April 15 because the eclipse comes two days after a lunar perigee, that is, the point at which the moon approaches the Earth closest in its orbit.

11:32   Strong will NOT 56" chest can teach Pak a lesson: Sena
Shiv Sena today attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, saying he should focus on stopping the "atrocities" by the neighbouring country and not Maharashtra politics.

Claiming that Pakistan has been emboldened by government's failure to take "firm" steps against the cross-border firing and shelling, the BJP's erstwhile ally took a pot-shot at Modi saying one does not need a 56-inch chest to protect the interests of the nation but a strong will power.

Keeping Modi busy in election rallies across the state while he is most needed at the Centre is like undermining the national security of India, the Shiv Sena said in its editorial mouthpiece 'Saamna'.

Referring to Modi's extensive campaigning for the BJP in Maharashtra ahead of state assembly polls, the Sena said, "We can talk about the politics of Maharashtra later as well Modi ji, but for now it is most important that we do not bear the atrocities committed by our neighbour."

"Do you need a 56-inch chest to protect the interests of the nation and to teach Pakistan a lesson for their misdeeds? All you need is a strong will power to give it back to them in the same measure," it said. "Pakistan is daring to continuously fire on the Indian side because there are no firm steps taken by the Indian government," Sena said.

11:21   ABVP says live-in relations a menace
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members on Tuesday joined hands to form a human chain and launch a campaign in Delhi University to raise awareness and sensitise students about "love jihad' and the "menace of live-in relationships', reports The Indian Express.

The ABVP leaders, however, clarified that "forced conversion of Hindu women by Muslim men', and not love jihad, will be the focus of their campaign on account of the latter having a "communal tone'.

"We are not against love and it is not our intention to target a particular community, but forced conversion of Hindu women by Muslim men using unethical means is a worrying trend and is a reality today. Raising awareness among girls to not fall for such traps will be part of this year-long campaign,' ABVP national secretary Rohit Chahal said.

The campaign will also look at sensitising students about how live-in relationships are against the Indian culture. The organisation plans to enlist the help of student groups to apprise university students about its perils.

"Live-in relationships go against the grain of Indian culture and the institution of family. It is also true that hardly any such relationship succeeds. We will form student groups in various colleges and undertake case studies to apprise girls of the detrimental effects of being in such a relationship," ABVP Delhi secretary Saket Bahuguna said.

"Nobody understands when somebody is trying to express a complex set of ideas," he said and underlined he has been seen by some as a "foreign object in the body politic".

"And perhaps there is a difficulty in digesting who I am and how I conduct myself," he told NDTV when asked about the controversy.

Tharoor, who drew flak from the Congress's Kerala unit by responding positively to Modi's invitation to him for the "Swachh Bharat"clean India campaign, said, "the fact is  that we don't do nuance in our politics".

Expressing resentment at party MP Shashi Tharoor praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress' Kerala unit today decided to submit a report to the party high command seeking suitable action in the matter.

KPCC president V M Sudheeran said praises lavished on Modi repeatedly by Tharoor had hurt Congress and UDF workers who worked sincerely and tirelessly for his victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency for a second time.

After interactions with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and other senior leaders, he said KPCC would submit a report to the high command on the issue reflecting the sentiments of the party's Kerala unit.

"Tharoor has praised Modi on several occasions. This has hurt the sentiments of the Congress and UDF workers who have put up hard work for Tharoor's victory in the Lok Sabha polls," Sudheeran said.
