22:39   Dutch complete recovery of MH17 wreckage
A week long operation to clear the wreckage from the crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine has been completed. A cargo train took pieces of the Boeing 777 aircraft to the eastern Ukrainian town of Kharkov. The wreckage will be transported to the Netherlands and reconstructed as part of the investigation into the cause of the disaster on July 17.

Magnus Carlsen retains the World Chess Championship after he beat India's Viswanathan Anand in game 11 of the championships. Carlsen forced Anand to submit in game 11. The Norwegian won with 6.5 points compared to Anand's 4.5 points. Anand needed to win both games to beat Carlsen.

Lewis Hamilton has won his second Formula One drivers' title in brilliant style by winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton overtook championship rival Nico Rosberg at the start and the German suffered a string of mechanical problems that hampered his chances of overhauling his Mercedes team-mate in the title race. Fireworks went off and there were tears, cheers and hugs in Hamilton's spot in the pits. The jubilant F1 racer said, "World champion, I can't believe it."

21:02   Pakistan to have 200 nuclear weapons by 2020: US think tank
Pakistan has the fastest growing nuclear weapons programme in the world and by 2020 it could have enough fissile material to produce more than 200 nuclear devices, a top American think tank has said. "Though many states are downsizing their stockpiles, Asia is witnessing a buildup. Pakistan has the fastest-growing nuclear programme in the world. By 2020, it could have a stockpile of fissile material that, if weaponised, could produce as many as 200 nuclear devices," Council on Foreign Relations said.

21:02   4 officials sustain serious injuries to hands, face during practise
Three officers, one havaldar were injured inside the army's sprawling Air Defence College in Gopalpur, Odisha during firing practice. All of them had to be rushed to Kolkata where they were admitted to the Command Hospital for further treatment. The officers were injured while 'chambering' which is a process through which a bullet is loaded into its chamber in a gun. Of the three, two have sustained serious injuries on their hands, faces and parts of their bodies have been blown off as per initial reports.

20:10   Volleyball match in Afghanistan turns bloody after terror attack
A suicide bomber walked into a crowd of spectators at a volleyball match in eastern Afghanistan and detonated his explosives vest, killing at least 40 people, a provincial official said. Paktia provincial spokesman Mukhles Afghan said at least 50 more were wounded in the attack in Paktia province, where hundreds had gathered to watch a tournament final. He said most of the casualties were civilians.

19:33   Modi, Sharif to be in same room for 2 days, bound to talk, says MEA
India did not rule out a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the SAARC summit, saying that he is keen to have meaningful dialogues with as many south Asian leaders as possible. 

External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said Pakistan has not requested for a meeting, but the two leaders will be in the same room for two days. Sources said they are bound to speak even if it is not a structured dialogue.

The PM will be in Nepal on November 26 and 27. His meetings are still being drawn up, but he wants a "meaningful dialogue with those he does meet and that all aspects of a relationship will be taken into account," Akbaruddin said.

18:56   Gujarat CM Anandi Patel adopts Lilapur village
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel adopted Lilapur village of Daskroi taluka in the district with a population of around 1,200 people. Taking her cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna', Patel has asked all the MLAs of Gujarat to adopt a village of their constituency and turn it into an ideal village to realise Modi's dream. After adopting Lilapur, about 20 kilometre away from the city, Patel went to the village which falls under her constituency of Ghatlodia, the release said.

18:36   Passengers evacuated from Charing Cross after fire breaks out
One of London's main railway stations has been evacuated after a fire broke out on a train at a platform. Passengers were ordered to leave Charing Cross after hearing a 'screech and a bang' prompted a blaze in the front carriage of one of the trains inside. Firefighters were called to the mainline station, with five fire engines dispatched to the scene. The blaze is believed to have caused smoke damage to a live wire and a hotel next door.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

17:29   Lankan Navy arrests 14 TN fishermen on charges of poaching
The Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday arrested 14 Tamil Nadu fishermen near Jaffna Peninsula, on charges of poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Fisheries Department assistant directors Gopinath and Sekar said that the fishermen belonged to Rameswaram and Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district. They said three boats of the fishermen had also been seized by the navy personnel. The fishermen had been taken to Karai Nagar in Jaffna, they said. 

The arrest comes days after five Indian fishermen on death row in Sri Lanka were released by the Sri Lankan government. They were arrested in Sri Lankan waters in November 2011, on charges of drug trafficking.

Shiv Sena will play the role of principal opposition in the winter session of the Maharashtra assembly beginning December 8, party leader Sanjay Raut said.   "I have no knowledge of any talks between my party and Bharatiya Janata Party. "As of now, we are an opposition party and will take on the government in the coming winter session," Raut said, adding, "Leader of Opposition in the legislative assembly Eknath Shinde is touring the state and is criticising the government on various fronts. Our party, which has 63 MLAs, is completely in the role of opposition party (in the assembly) on directives of our leader Uddhav Thackeray."

In a prize catch, the wife of Burdwan blast prime accused and the chief of the women's wing of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh militant group was arrested in Bangladesh along with three others. Fatema Begum, who confessed to training at least 25 women militants in India, is said to be the wife of Sajid, Burdwan blast prime accused, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. She was the women's wing chief of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, Rahman added.

15:42   Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to perform at Nobel Peace Prize Concert
Legendary singer and composer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which will be held at the Oslo Spektrum Arena on December 11. This is the second time a Pakistani will be performing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Junoon previously performed at the event in 2007. The concert and ceremony, to be hosted by Queen Latifah, will honour India's Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai, for the work they have done to promote children's rights, particularly education.

15:31   Father Kuriakose Chavara and Sister Euphrasia congregated as saints
In a jubilant moment for the Christian community in India, Father Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Sister Euphrasia from Kerala have been declared saints by the Vatican at St Peter's Square in Vatican City. Kuriakose Elias Chavara been started a special school for the weaker sections while Euphrasia was known as a 'praying mother' and a saint among nuns. She was born in 1877 at Katoor in Thrissur district in a rich family, and was known as Rose before becoming a nun. She joined the CMC and became a nun in 1898, and took the name Euphrasia.

Both of them have earned the title of 'Venerable'.

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "copying" his schemes of adopting villages and constructing toilets. "He (Modi) is talking about adopting villages. I have adopted villages in 1990. The PM is copying me. I have done all this. I have initiated construction of toilets in 1990," Yadav said

Best-selling author Chetan Bhagat has run into another controversy in Bihar. An English scholar from the state has accused him of plagiarism.
Dr Birbal Jha, director of British Lingua, a spoken English institute in Patna, has alleged that Bhagat had lifted the plot of his latest novel, Half Girlfriend, from his bilingual play, Englishia Boli.

13:19   Angelina Jolie confirms plan to retire from acting
Angelina Jolie has confirmed she is retiring from acting to focus on writing and directing. The Oscar winning actress said she has "never loved" being in front of the camera and feels "much happier" in an off-screen role.

Jolie, 39, told of her decision while promoting her latest film Unbroken, which she directed, about Olympic runner and US airman Louis Zamperini, who spent 47 days living on a raft after a plane crash and survived two years as a Japanese prisoner of war.

Earlier this year, she hinted that her appearance as Cleopatra in a biopic of the Egyptian queen could be her last acting role.

A "whole set of second generation reforms" will be unveiled in the next Union Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitely said, promising "exciting times ahead". Looking ahead, Jaitley envisages the GDP growth to cross 6 per cent in 2015-16 once the effect of all the steps proposed kicks in. From thereon, "we are going to take off," he said. Asked about the broad contours of the direction the Budget for 2015-16 will take, Jaitley said, "there is a whole set of second generation reforms".

12:31   Railway officers to join Modi's Swachh Bharat mission
Looking to give a new impetus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat mission, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has suggested that officers could adopt one railway station each in order to ensure proper cleanliness on the premises. Noting that "in Railways, cleaning is nobody's baby", Prabhu has also advocated banning of cooking and shifting out of commercial stalls, including eateries, from the platforms to keep railway stations clean and safe. 

According to the plan, about 700 stations are being identified to be taken up by individual officers for cleaning from next month.

11:20   Polish town to ban Winnie the Pooh for being 'too immodest'
Officials in a Polish town have opposed a proposition to name a playground after Winnie-the-Pooh due to the bear's unclear gender and immodest clothing. Officials at a council meeting claimed that Winnie the Pooh is of "dubious sexuality" and is "inappropriately dressed" to be around children, given that the bear is half-naked. "The problem with that bear is it doesn't have a complete wardrobe," said council person Ryszard Cichy. "It is half-naked, which is wholly inappropriate for children."

11:10   Berths for Sena likely in Maharashtra Cabinet expansion
Hinting that the stalemate between the Bharatiya Janata Party and their former ally, the Shiv Sena is over, Maharashtra Public Works Department minister Chandrakant Patil said that Sena "will be accommodated" in the Cabinet expansion before the winter session of the assembly starts on December 8. "We have always wanted the Sena to join us because we do not want unstable government in the state. The final picture will be clear in one or two days. But one thing is for sure. Shiv Sena will be accommodated in the cabinet expansion, which may happen between November 25 and 30,' Patil said.

A North Korean student with family ties to the regime has escaped a kidnapping bid in Paris, where he was studying, and is now in hiding.

A French source said Saturday that the student, identified only as Han, escaped a kidnapping attempt at a Paris airport where he was to be put on a plane for the North Korean capital Pyongyang. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.8 jolted central Japan on Saturday evening, trapping at least five people when their homes collapsed, public broadcaster NHK said. 

The Japan Meteorological Agency said no tsunami warning was issued after the quake, which was felt in the capital Tokyo 110 miles away.

Islamic State militants have killed at least 25 members of a Sunni Muslim tribe in a village on the eastern edge of the provincial capital Ramadi, local officials said on Saturday, in apparent revenge for tribal opposition to the radical Islamists.

They said the bodies of the men from the Albu Fahd tribe were discovered by the Iraqi army when it launched a counter-offensive on Saturday against Islamic State near Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province.

US pledges $135 million in additional Syria aid after UN warnings: The United States pledged an additional $135 million in aid for the victims of the Syrian war on Saturday, much of it to help the United Nations with a funding shortfall it had warned could force it to scale back food distribution.

Neighboring nations have borne the brunt of the humanitarian crisis sparked by the civil war, which has killed nearly 200,000 people and forced more than 3 million to flee.

A Saudi citizen with links to al Qaida has been released from Guantanamo Bay after serving 12 years.Muhammad al-Zahrani, 45, was sent back to his homeland of Saudi Arabia on Friday after a U.S. government board decided that he no longer posed a threat.

The move came as the U.S government whittles down the prison population at the controversial prison base in Cuba in a bid to close the controversial base.According to officials, even more prisoners will be released from the site where 142 men are currently held including 73 who have already been cleared for release.Al-Zahrani is the thirteenth prisoner to leave Guantanamo Bay this year and the seventh in just the past two weeks.During his hearing, his lawyers told the review board that he was no longer a threat to the U.S. and was instead a 'middle-aged, ailing man who desperately wanted to return to Saudi Arabia.'

Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari today anointed his 19-year-old son, Shaban Bukhari, as the Naib Imam (deputy Imam) of the 17th century mosque at a ceremony, notwithstanding the surrounding row and High Court's ruling which said that the ceremony had no "legal sanctity". 

"I announce Shaban Bukhari as the Naib Imam of Jama Masjid. I hope that he will live up to the expectations," Bukhari said during the ceremony.
