The BJP's question over how the Samajwadi Party was funding Mulayam Singh Yadav's 75th birthday bash has been answered.

UP's powerful minister Azam Khan, who is hosting the two-day event in Rampur that begins today, has said, that gangsters Dawood Ibrahim, the Taliban and Abu Salem have paid for the bash.

Obviously, Mr Khan is being sarcastic and the question will remain unanswered. The BJP has pointed out that the UP government has ignored the abysmal economy of the state, but has thought it fit to spend crores on Mulayam Singh's birthday.

During the party's annual jamboree at Saifai in Jaunary this year, crores were spent flying in Bollywood celebrities at a time when Muzaffarnagar riot victims were freezing in relief camps.

The highlight of Mulayam's Singh Yadav's birthday bash is a 75-feet long U-shaped cake made in New Delhi. Accompanied by his Chief Minister son Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam will fly to Rampur this afternoon in a state aircraft from Lucknow.

After landing at the CRPF airstrip, he will take a 12- km ride through the town in a Victorian buggy imported from the UK.  Read more on the event here.
