Fishermen released by Lanka reach their villag in Tamil Nadu

The five fishermen from Tamil Nadu who got a new lease of life after Sri Lanka commuted their death sentence reached their village today. Massive celebrations are on in their village.

The fishermen, who spent three years in a Sri Lanka jail were sentenced to death for alleged drug trafficking but set free after President Mahinda Rajapaksa pardoned them.

Earlier in the day, families of the fishermen gathered in Tiruchirappalli airport anticipating their arrival there from Colombo, but returned to Rameswaram disappointed, as officials told them the five would be flying directly to Delhi.
