About 20 people, including two policemen, were today injured when unidentified assailants on motorbikes threw hand grenades at a shop in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.

The incident happened this evening at a shop located adjacent to two police stations, Mithadar and Kharadar.

"Four men on two motorcycles hurled the hand grenades at a shop in the market which was crowded causing so many injuries," senior police official, Sheeraz Nazir said.

"Mithadar is one of the city's busiest commercial hubs and a large number of people were present in the area at the time of the attack," he said.

Nazir said the men had not targeted the police stations but apparently it was a random attack in the market.
